What is the importance of an environmental sector within the Industry?
At SAMOT, a world-class industry, all sectors are essential for the operation of the whole, and as such, the Environment is not different. In addition to its importance to the society and all of those related to the industry in any way, it is also essential for the constant teaching and awareness of the employees.
There is a multidisciplinary team in charge of the operation of this process to keep all matters up to date in all SAMOT/ALTREF plants, always seeking continuous improvement. In August 2021, the General Environmental Committee was created in order to better comply with ISO 14001.
This committee is formed by professionals in the quality, logistics, human resources, legal, labor safety, and environmental areas, among others who are always ready to make things happen.
This makes it possible to comply with legal requirements, such as the compliance with the PNRS (National Solid Residue Policy), where the residues generated are correctly stored and separated for the correct disposal and final destination.
Essential activities take place every day to thoroughly care for the means, materials, and resources present in the production and disposal at SAMOT. Environmental rounds and Gemba walks take place to check non-compliances and possible events around the plants.
Additionally, the company also holds environmental partnerships with other companies seeking more reuse, reverse logistics and recycling actions, among others.
A practical example is the oily sludge originating from the productive process that is forwarded to a certified environmental partner for other purposes, such as seed pots, and with that action the material that would have been disposed of can be reused with quality.
As previously mentioned, internal awareness is also prioritized at SAMOT through communication projects presenting information, such as the “Environmental Timeline,” which has the purpose of providing information on the projects that have already been implemented by the Environmental team in the company.
Since 700 people are involved in several processes in 3 shifts, this knowledge and understanding is a differential, and surely brings more concrete and positive results not only for the company, but also for those involved inside and out of it.
Therefore, we are committed to keeping the areas well cared for, aiming at not having any negative impact, taking care of the health of the employees, allowing environmental partnerships, and maintaining the quality of the raw materials in products that do not degrade the environment.
Therefore, at SAMOT, we believe that every action, regardless of its size, matters. Everyone can contribute towards the environment in the final processing, each one doing their share to generate an effect and awareness, with a greater quality of life than we can ever imagine.
